Whether the weather...

We got up this morning and got right to work preparing for hurricane Helene who will be cruising up our way from the Gulf of Mexico in the next couple of days. Even though our gutters were recently professionally cleaned, we cleaned out the gutters. We cleared all of our yard drains and re-dug all of our emergency trenches. We got some water ready. We did several loads of laundry. And, yes, we have been diligent about charging our devices.

Here's Benjamin doing some tidying up on the roof:

He was really excited about being up there and wanted to take a picture of himself reading a book on the roof:

As it happened, we read Chapter XXIII: Anne Comes to Grief in an Affair of Honor in Anne of Green Gables today, wherein Anne breaks her ankle after falling off the roof while walking the ridgepole (which you can clearly see above Benjamin). If you fell off our roof you'd likely break much more than an ankle (though, to be fair, like the Barry house described in this chapter (from which Anne took her fall), falling from the backside of our house would be ever so much more perilous than falling from the front side of our house—at any rate, there is to be no falling from roofs)).

Here's Alexander climbing up the ladder and noticing how much windier it (apparently) was from way up high:

After we finished some physical preparations for the hurricane, we set about trying to get all of our more...academic...affairs in order. Do we have readings to do when the power is out? Do I have all my writing finished for tomorrow?

The answer to that is no. Though we just got an alert that classes are cancelled on Thursday and Friday...so maybe that will buy me a little time.

The temple is closed on Thursday and Friday (and then for the next two weeks for cleaning). Andrew and I made a goal to go to the temple more often this year (now that Phoebe's not a baby-baby) and we have done poorly.

According to Gwinnett County (our school district), Thursday, September 26, 2024, will be a Digital Learning Day. On Friday, September 27, 2024, Gwinnett County Public Schools will be closed.

The school district most of the seminary kids are in has cancelled school on Friday, so seminary is cancelled then (though it's still on for tomorrow and that's probably alright, since the storm isn't expected to really hit us until tomorrow evening...though it's already quite rainy).

Anyway, we'll see how this storm goes...
