Stake Dance

Just a note that a few nights ago in a last-ditch effort to get the kids' attention (because they were being unruly, naturally), Andrew hollered, "Yo! Listen up!"

And because sometimes my children's mother is sometimes equally unruly, I belted out: "Here's the story about a little guy that lives in a blue world, and all day and all night, and everything he sees is just blue—like him!—inside and outside."

Andrew gave up and joined in as the kids' jaws dropped open in amazement:

"Blue's his house with his blue little window, and a blue corvette, and everything is blue for him, and himself, and everybody around, cause he ain't got nobody to listen...."

This is about where the kids lost it, because by this time Andrew and I were jumping around the living room singing, "I'm blue, da ba dee da ba di, da ba dee da ba di, da ba dee da ba di..."

Rachel was like, "No way is this happening. This is not a real song. These are not my real parents..."

But alas, it was happening, it is a real song, and we are her parents.

"Pretty impressive, really," Andrew and Rachel agreed. "Considering it's not a polka song."

My repertoire knows no bounds.

Anyway, Andrew ended up playing 'Blue' for the kids to listen to. And then we started talking about how it played at virtually every dance we went to in our youth, which led to us listening to other popular songs from the 1990s and early 2000s, which led to the creation of the game "Stake Dance."

Now the kids have started asking if we can play "Stake Dance."

We can't all the time, but it's a fun sometimes activity.

Tonight Andrew and the older girls are at the temple doing baptisms for the dead, so I'm alone with the little kids and they requested that we play "Stake Dance," so I made them do some tidying up to give us a safe dance floor and we played "Stake Dance."

We started with "Where's Me Jumper" (since ZoĆ« lost her sweater at the park this afternoon and we had to go on a long walk to find it, which we did...unlike the sweater she lost on the airplane) and then we danced to a long list of other songs:
  • Blue
  • Hamster Dance
  • We Like to pPary!
  • Come and Get your Love
  • Everybody was Kung Fu Fighting
  • I'm a Believer
  • Cotton Eye Joe
  • Mambo No. 5
  • Happy
  • Better When I'm Dancin'
  • Can't Stop the Feeling
  • How am I Going to Get Over You
Altogether we dance for 40 minutes and wore ourselves right out!
