Gingerbread houses

The little kids have already destroyed and consumed their gingerbread graham cracker houses, but the real gingerbread houses that Rachel and Miriam made were still standing and we hadn't taken pictures of them or anything, so tonight we did...so that we can destroy them tomorrow.

Here's the smaller of the two houses, decorated by Rachel (when there was very little candy left to choose from):

And here's the big house, which Rachel baked and Miriam decorated:

A few of Rachel's carefully planned pieces went a little wonky in the oven and she couldn't piece them together just so, so she made even more gingerbread so she could make trees to cover up the imperfections. She's gotten very good at gingerbread this season—she used three containers of ginger this Christmas!

We wanted to see how the candy windows looked with light shining through them, so Andrew used a razor blade to make a hole in the cardboard beneath the house. Rachel was a little nervous about it, but it worked out well.

Here's what it looks like:

Alexander was very impressed:

The jolly rancher windows worked a lot better than the candy cane windows:

Here are the sweet kids with their giant gingerbread houses:

And here's Rachel modeling the shirt Auntie K sent her (it's a 2020 dumpster fire shirt):
