Peaches are on! And, boy, are they good!
Alexander, Zoƫ, Benjamin, and I spent some time harvesting peaches this afternoon (when the air was a little less smoky than it is in the mornings). We collected three big bowls full...and snacked on a few. Alexander snatched a peach and started chowing down on it. He loved it so much! I tried taking it away several times but every time he started crying and frantically trying to get it back so I just let him keep it. He ate it right down to the stone.
He snatched another one from the bowl when we were on our way inside, so I let him finish that peach as well. That's a whole lot of peach for such a little guy!
He was getting so terribly messy inside (even while sitting in his diaper in his high chair) that I decided to move him back outside to finish his peach. It was frustratingly slippery for him once he'd gnawed all the skin off. Here's a picture of it slipping out of his grasp just as he was going in for a big bite:
He is too cute for words, but I'll do my best to tell you a little bit about 10-month-old Alexander.
At ten months, Alexander...
- likes to feed himself. If you should happen to put anything in his mouth for him, he will reach in to pull it back out so he can inspect it and squish it around in his hands a bit before putting it back in. So usually I just let him feed himself. Eliminate the middle man.
- claps his hands on demand, waves occasionally, and plays "Up/Down" with his arms.
- will pull himself up on anything, will walk along anything, and has been spotted testing out his balancing skills without holding onto anything.
- thinks jumping is hilarious.
- loves swinging.
- hates being left alone (or having anyone walk past him without greeting him).
- no longer has to be swaddled to sleep but still likes his little sleep sacs.
- likes bouncing to music.
- is an expert at finding pencils. He seems to always have one in his hand (and/or mouth). It drives me crazy.
- loves games like peek-a-boo.
- enjoys following his siblings around.
- is a finicky sleeper. We're still quite lucky to get an hour at a time these days. I don't know what's wrong because he used to sleep. My baby is broken.
- likes balls and cars and baby dolls. Oh, and other babies. He loves other babies.
- has enough hair for it to get "messy."
- can't crawl with pants on. He wore pants yesterday for the first time in a long time and he couldn't figure out how to crawl on the tile/wood floors. He kept slipping all over the place.
- definitely says "Mama," and we're pretty sure he says "Rah-Rah" for Rachel. Often he'll say, "Hi!" or "Hey!"
- growls all the time. He growls way more often than he'll babble anything.
- is just too cute (but I said that part already).
