Dress ups

My aunt Marie sent the girls a package full of wonderful surprises: flamenco dresses from Spain and a set of costume jewelry. Rachel is a finicky dresser-upper. Sometimes she loves it and sometimes she doesn't; when we opened the package she was excited but it took some convincing on my part to get her to try the dress on.

I bought a skirt for myself when we were in Spain—a black one with red polka dots—and I wanted to buy a little dress for Rachel so badly but she would not try one on. We didn't want to waste our money so we didn't get her one; we had gotten her a belly dancing dress in Cairo and every time I tried putting it on her she'd cry and cry and cry.

She's much better about dressing up now and even enjoys it, but it has to be on her terms.

Miriam, on the other hand, loves dressing up. The minute she saw her dress she hugged it and said, "Dress. On. On! ON! Dance."

We got the girls all prettied up and they danced in the living room for quite some time.

Miriam's new love is costume jewelry. She calls it her "bracey," short for bracelet, I suppose. She's been bringing me the earrings everyday and asking me to put them on for her.

Today she asked to borrow one of Rachel's skirts even. It was so "pitty" that she just couldn't not wear it.

We're going to be in big trouble when this diva is old enough to date!

Later Miriam added the belly dancing dress (that Rachel shunned at her age) and a pair of ruby slippers.

Even later she added a wedding veil, but I didn't get a picture of that because now our costumes are off and we're getting ready to play in the snow. Happy end of April. *sigh*
