This afternoon we filled the pool up with fresh water and the girls got in for a swim. They actually played together nicely for once in their little lives, which was so nice. They shared toys, blew bubbles together and only splashed responsibly.
They were having so much fun together and even gave each other kisses—Miriam got Rachel right on the lips, which Rachel said was gross, but at least she didn’t hit her for it or anything.
Miriam spent a lot of time putting a little rubber duck into a cup and then trying to drink out of the cup. (Un)fortunately the cup has a hole in the bottom so she wasn’t able to drink the turbid pool water. She was disappointed every time. Rachel, in case you are wondering, is cleaning a wedding dress for the same rubber duck who later got all ready to be married only to be kidnapped and tied up by evil men about 50 times in a row before finally tying the knot.
There was a little bit of contention when Rachel tried to extricate the duck from Miriam’s grasp but they worked things out easily enough when I proposed that Rachel trade something for the duck instead of simply taking it.
A few hours later it rained—so a fat lot of good it did to hang the towels to dry on the railing. Rachel had a blast running around in the showers. She even made up a song about how much she loves “singing and dancing in the rain.” Little does she know, those lyrics have already been copyrighted. Sometimes I wonder if it is fair to be able to copyright something so easily created by another. I mean, the thought that singing and dancing in the rain is fun was completely original to Rachel. She was out there singing and dancing her little heart out. She also spent some time catching raindrops with her tongue.
How funny it is to be able to go out in the heat of the day to swim…and run in the rain a few hours later. Weather is still such a novelty for us.
I'm impressed that Miriam is brave enough to blow bubbles on her own! I'm now dying to fill up the but and let Tommy "bathe" without me washing him.
