Now that Rachel has a sister, she’s pretty sure she needs to have a brother, too. Today at dinner we had a most interesting conversation:
“Daddy, when you were a baby were you my brother?”
“No, I wasn’t. I was a brother, just not yours.”
“Then who is my brother?” Rachel turned to address me, “Is my brother in your tummy?”
“No. He isn’t.”
“Why not?”
“Because it isn’t time to have a brother yet.”
“Well, supposedly my brother likes to play with ladybugs. This is good because I like to play with ladybugs, too.”
“Did you just use the word supposedly?”
“Yes. Supposedly my brother will be my friend. What’s my brother’s name?”
“He doesn’t have a name.”
“Why not?”
“Because he doesn’t exist.”
“Oh. I think I should have a brother.”
I think she’ll just have to wait.
Evelynn is totally convinced that we'll be giving her a baby brother in a few months.... I hope I don't disappoint her. I also can't believe that Rachel said supposedly. That's amazing.
