Rachel and I were colouring this afternoon amid the left-over ants from lunch. The fact that we’ve been invaded with ants again is entirely my fault.
I thought the ants had gone away for the “winter” so I put the honey container back in the cupboard—it had been quarantined on our counter all summer long because for some reason the ants can’t find their way onto this one particular counter we have—and the ants found their way to it. So when I got it out for lunch it was swarming with ants and I didn’t even notice until I had set it on the table and they scattered everywhere.
We’ve been hunting down ants all day!
So, I had drawn Rachel some pumpkins so that she could draw faces on them…because she really likes to do that for some reason. They weren’t exactly pumpkins—more like circular blobs of orange. Once she’d drawn her fill of faces we put them aside and started doing other things.
I happened to glance across the table and saw an ant running along the outline of one of the pumpkins—round and round and round.
It was quite hilarious.
In case you can’t understand Rachel she says:
“Don’t get on my marker, ant!”
“Is there an ant on my paper?”
“Not happy.”
“He’s running around on my paper.”
“Oh! I want to draw [on] him!”
Then the sound gets muffled for some reason and she commands, “Get off, ant!”
And then the sound comes back on and she says:
“I want him to get off!”
Perhaps I’m easily entertained, but I thought this was hilarious. He was going at it for a good 20 minutes or so before he wandered off the paper. And then we smashed him.

Wow, I watched this twice because I was so entertained! Then I showed it to Dan and he was fascinated too.
ReplyDeleteAnd it was doubly entertaining because Rachel's little voice is so darn cute!
I can't believe he so faithfully followed that marker, and at such a quick pace. It must have smelled good.
ReplyDeleteWow, that ant was smelling something off that marker ink. I have never seen a bug do that!
