As I think I've mentioned already this semester (and probably more than once), but Tuesday—Wednesday—Thursday is a real slog for us. Tuesdays are my big day on campus. Wednesday we have co-op every other week, music lessons every week, and church activities in the evening. Thursday is Andrew's big day on campus. And...it's just a lot.
It's even more of "a lot" when Andrew's out of town.
He went to Montreal to run a workshop this week and...it was a lot, a lot.
In the middle of the whirlwind that was Wednesday, Phoebe quietly, and in a very self-satisfied manner, turned three. With no expectations about how the day should go, she was simply satisfied knowing that it was finally her birthday.
We didn't open any presents. We didn't have cake or ice cream. But it was her birthday, by golly!
She was so excited to go to co-op because she knew they were going to call her up to the front to sing to her. And they did. And she loved it.
She bravely went to the preschool class for the first hour and then hung out with me the second hour while I tried to get some work accomplished. And I did—I finished reviewing a paper!
Rachel picked up Zoë and Miriam early, to take them to their music lessons. Usually Rachel only picks up Miriam and Zoë gets to stay and then Andrew picks her up. But...he wasn't here, so Zoë had to go earlier.
Before the boys, Phoebe, and I left for home, however, the kids reminded me that we'd promised Phoebe she could start sitting in the backseat on her birthday. So I spent several minutes situating her carseat back there—she's now front-facing instead of rear-facing. We probably could have kept her happy rear-racing for longer (and I know that's safer) but it was really inconvenient for everybody else in the van to have her rear-facing (it cuts off an entrance, etc.). Anyway, everyone seems happy to have her be facing forward now. Even she is happy...
...she just didn't want me to take her picture.
Here she is looking a little messy in her special birthday shirt:
She was writing, "Happy birthday, dear Phoebe!" on the chalkboard for herself (in her own little scribble alphabet). We still haven't quite celebrated her, but I did break out some of her new (to her) footie jammies that I was going to wrap up for her...and then didn't. She was thrilled to get new jammies even without unwrapping them.
We plan on celebrating her tomorrow (and forever). It's hard to believe that she's three!
